Nestled in the heart of Bergen County, Tenafly is a charming suburban town known for its lush parks, exceptional schools, and diverse community. Here, the nursing job market showcases the vitality and resilience of our healthcare system. With approx. 15,000 residents, Tenafly plays a unique role in the broader landscape of New Jersey’s healthcare market. According to recent data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, registered nurses in New Jersey earn a mean annual salary of approximately $88,860, translating to about $42.72 per hour. In Tenafly, I estimate the average nursing salary to be slightly higher, ranging from $90,000 to $95,000 annually, due to the affluence of the surrounding areas and the demand for skilled nursing professionals. While New York City looms just across the river, Tenafly offers a suburban lifestyle that many find preferable, combining access to major urban healthcare facilities while wrapped in a close-knit community feel.
I came to Tenafly not knowing what to expect. Turns out, it was the right move.
The nursing job market in Tenafly is both robust and promising. Within the next five years, NurseRecruiter estimates that we will need approximately 150 new nurses to meet the growing demand, spurred by an aging population and increased healthcare needs. Currently, I would estimate that around 1,000 nurses are employed in our town, a number reflective of the overall population and healthcare services available. Interestingly, travel nursing opportunities have been on the rise in our area, particularly during peak flu seasons and summer months, leading to an influx of temporary positions. Meanwhile, per diem nursing jobs are also prevalent, allowing flexibility for nurses; I estimate that at least 20% of our nursing workforce is engaged in per diem roles, providing essential support to local healthcare facilities. Tenafly is surrounded by nearby cities like Englewood, Dumont, and Hackensack, each with distinctive healthcare environments. Englewood, for example, offers diverse nursing specialties but at slightly lower salary ranges, while Hackensack features major hospitals like Hackensack University Medical Center that can outpace Tenafly in terms of job availability.
As a town of significance, Tenafly boasts several healthcare facilities, including local clinics and rehabilitation centers that provide many nursing positions. The presence of major health systems like Hackensack Meridian Health further augments nursing opportunities, with ongoing investments in state-of-the-art medical technology and specialty services. Our town is projected for growth, with an expected population increase that will directly influence public health programs aimed at promoting wellness and disease prevention. Cultural events, community gatherings, and local parks enrich the lifestyle here, offering a balance of professional and personal fulfillment. In summary, the nursing job market in Tenafly is strong and multifaceted, with ample opportunities for both local and traveling nurses.
