We are seeking an experienced Medical/Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) for a 13-week travel contract in a fast-paced Acute Surgical Unit. The RN will provide comprehensive nursing care to medical and surgical patients, coordinate admissions and discharges, monitor patient conditions, administer medications, and collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to ensure safe, high-quality patient care.
The unit manages a high patient turnover, discharging approximately 8–15 patients daily and admitting a similar number. Patients may arrive from the Emergency Department (ED), Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), or through direct admissions. An Admission, Discharge, and Transfer (ADT) nurse is available to support patient flow.
Responsibilities
Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans.
Monitor patient conditions, recognize changes in clinical status, and respond appropriately.
Administer medications and treatments in accordance with established protocols.
Provide preoperative and postoperative nursing care as applicable.
Coordinate patient admissions, transfers, and discharges efficiently.
Collaborate with physicians and the interdisciplinary team to support positive patient outcomes.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record.
Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions.
Follow infection prevention, patient safety, and hospital policies.
Manage competing priorities in a high-volume, fast-paced medical/surgical environment.
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license appropriate for the assignment.
Minimum of 2 years of recent Medical/Surgical nursing experience.
Required: American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Preferred: Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Preferred: Cerner electronic health record experience.
Previous travel nursing experience required.
Ability to work 12-hour night shifts in a fast-paced acute-care environment.
