The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides comprehensive, patient-centered nursing care within the scope of practical nursing practice to an incarcerated patient population. Working under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), physician, and psychiatric staff, the LPN responds to a wide range of physical and behavioral health needs in a secure clinical environment. This role requires strong clinical skills, professionalism, and the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Day, evening, and night shifts are available.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Provide direct nursing care to patients in accordance with established policies, procedures, and standards of care
• Perform nursing assessments, vital signs, medication administration, treatments, and documentation as assigned
• Monitor patients for changes in medical or mental health status and promptly report concerns to the RN or medical provider
• Assist with sick call, chronic care clinics, intake screenings, and emergency response as needed
• Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately, following physician orders and facility protocols
• Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential medical records
• Collaborate with nursing, medical, and psychiatric staff to support continuity of care
• Adhere to infection control, safety, and security procedures at all times
• Maintain professional boundaries and demonstrate respectful, nonjudgmental care to all patients
Qualifications
• Current, valid Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the State of Maryland
• Current tuberculosis (TB) documentation
• Active CPR certification
• Ability to pass a background investigation and obtain required agency security clearance
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience as an LPN preferred
o Experience in a hospital, community outpatient clinic, or long-term care setting preferred
o Experience in a correctional or secure healthcare environment preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Knowledge of practical nursing principles and procedures
• Ability to work effectively in a structured, secure environment
• Strong communication and documentation skills
• Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress situations
• Commitment to ethical practice, patient confidentiality, and teamwork
