Location: Hybrid (Two days in the St. Paul office and three days telecommuting)
Responsibilities
As a Catastrophic Medical Specialist, you will:
• Review, interpret, and analyze medical aspects of complex/catastrophic workers’ compensation claim files.
• Provide consultation to claims staff on effective medical and rehabilitation management of serious injury claims.
• Make recommendations on projected medical and rehabilitation treatment options, outcomes, and anticipated future medical costs.
• Research and identify programs aimed at cost-effective medical and rehabilitation management.
• Provide guidance to claims staff on the appropriate application of established medical treatment parameters and other standards of care.
• Collaborate and network with industry representatives to stay abreast of new strategies, medical treatments, and rehabilitation programs to optimize injury recovery.
• Develop as well as deliver training and education to claims professionals via one-on-one, online, or in classroom type setting on various medical and rehabilitation topics.
• Lead and participate in in-person account meetings.
• Participate in and represent the WCRA at claims or medical management-specific industry meetings/conferences.
• Some travel required.

Qualifications
• RN License or another relevant medical background
• Five years of injury management expertise
• Ten+ years of combined experience in clinical care, emergency room, managed care or workers’ comp
• Strong expertise in catastrophic claims cost drivers
• Workers’ Comp claims management or related experience (preferred)
• Ability to research and document clearly
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Ability to set priorities and work independently
• Ability to effectively present and conduct training sessions (virtually and in-person)
