Position Summary
The Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN) is responsible for providing safe, effective, and quality patient care before, during, and after surgical procedures in the ambulatory surgery center. The OR RN ensures adherence to sterile technique, patient safety protocols, and assists the surgical team in maintaining an efficient operating room environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Prepare the operating room with appropriate instruments, supplies, and equipment for scheduled procedures.
Serve as the circulating nurse during surgical procedures.
Serve as pre-operative and post-operative nurse.
Verify patient identity, surgical procedure, consent, and surgical site in accordance with safety protocols.
Maintain sterile technique and infection control standards throughout procedures.
Assist with patient positioning and ensure patient safety during surgery.
Perform surgical counts according to established policy.
Monitor patient condition during procedures and communicate with the surgical team.
Ensure accurate and timely documentation of perioperative care.
Handle and label surgical specimens appropriately.
Assist with transferring patients to the recovery area when needed.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized operating room environment.
Qualifications
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment.
Current BLS certification; ACLS preferred.
Prior operating room or perioperative nursing experience preferred.
Knowledge of aseptic technique and surgical procedures.
