Summary Objective
The purpose of this position is to provide advanced clinical care to inmates in the Detention Center, focusing on assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and continuity of care. This position will work under established medical protocols and in collaboration with sworn and civilian staff. The Nurse Practitioner will ensure timely, ethical, and secure healthcare delivery to the inmates within the facility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
• Assists with the development of all written standing medical protocols as required by Minimum Standards for Local Facilities in South Carolina. Assists with training and implementation of policies and procedures that ensure quality medical care.
• Conducts intake health screenings, chronic care evaluations, and doctor call assessments.
• Diagnoses and treats acute and chronic medical conditions amongst the inmate population.
• Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests and labs.
• Prescribes medications in accordance with medical protocols and regulatory guidelines.
• Responds to medical emergencies as needed and coordinates higher-level care when needed.
• Maintains accurate, timely, and confidential medical records.
• Collaborates with sworn and civilian staff to ensure safe and secure clinical operations.
• Provides inmate education on health conditions, medications, and preventive care.
• Supervises medical staff in conjunction with the Medical Coordinator.
Nurse Practitioner License
