Endoscopy Technician (GT Tech)

Job Summary:

The Endoscopy Technician I have either no experience in endoscopy or is a novice in the endoscopy setting. The technician assists the nurses and physicians in providing care for the endoscopy patient. They must complete competencies for all basic GI procedures and scope reprocessing. The Technician also supports the area with duties that include, but are not limited to preparation of the procedure room and sterile field to ensure a safe patient care environment including gathering all required instruments and supplies and serving as an endoscopy procedure assistant. The job also includes transportation of patients and equipment, stocking/maintaining supplies, care and maintenance of endoscopes and their accessories contributing to the daily functions of the unit. They have strong sense of infection control in the GI setting.

Core Technical Skills
Equipment Operation & Troubleshooting: Operating, manipulating, and troubleshooting endoscopes and specialized GI lab equipment during live procedures.

Intra-Procedural Support: Directly assisting the physician and RN by anticipating technical needs and manipulating instruments during scheduled, urgent, and emergent GI procedures.

Endoscope Reprocessing: Cleaning and maintaining endoscopes and related accessories in strict adherence to infection control standards.

Procedural Preparation & Triage: Expediting the setup of necessary instruments, equipment, and supplies for all procedural scenarios, adapting quickly to unexpected emergencies.

Infection Control & Quality Assurance: Applying in-depth knowledge of infection control principles and executing Quality Improvement (QI) monitoring.

Equipment Evaluation: Assisting in the trial, evaluation, and implementation of new medical equipment and supplies.

Required Certifications: Maintaining active BLS (Basic Life Support) and SGNA (Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates) certifications.

Required Minimum Education:

High School Diploma General or GED General
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):

All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.

BLS - Basic Life Support or ARC-BLS - Amer Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS-I - Basic Life Support - Instructor

SGNA-GTS - SGNA GI Tech Specialist or SGNA-GTS-P - SGNA GI Tech Specialist - Provisional (90 Days) within 90 Days

Required Minimum Experience:

No endoscopy experience is required. Successful completion of 2-day system endoscopy education within 30 days of hire. Required and Successful completion of on-the-job training with documentation of orientation and all competencies met (specific competencies determined by facility of employment). Required
