Position Summary
The Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) Registered Nurse provides specialized perioperative nursing care for patients undergoing cardiovascular and open-heart surgical procedures. The RN functions as a circulator within the cardiovascular operating room, collaborating with surgeons, anesthesia providers, perfusionists, surgical technologists, and the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. This role requires extensive experience in open-heart surgery and adherence to perioperative standards and sterile technique.
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct perioperative nursing care for cardiovascular and open-heart surgical procedures.
Function as the circulating RN during complex cardiac and vascular surgeries.
Perform comprehensive preoperative patient assessments and verify procedural readiness.
Coordinate patient care throughout the intraoperative experience while maintaining patient safety and sterile technique.
Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, perfusionists, and surgical staff during procedures.
Prepare operating rooms, surgical equipment, and supplies for scheduled cardiovascular cases.
Monitor patient status throughout procedures and respond appropriately to changes in condition.
Document perioperative care accurately in the electronic medical record.
Assist with room turnover, equipment checks, and inventory management.
Maintain compliance with infection prevention, patient safety, and perioperative practice standards.
Participate in emergency cardiovascular procedures as required.
Perform additional duties within the RN scope of practice as assigned.
Qualifications
Current and valid California RN License.
Current BLS (AHA) certification.
Current ACLS (AHA) certification.
Minimum 2 years of recent CVOR experience.
Open-heart surgery experience required.
Strong knowledge of cardiovascular surgical procedures, sterile technique, and perioperative nursing practices.
