JOB SUMMARY FOR RN MS TELE (MEDICAL SURGICAL TELEMETRY NURSE)
- FACILITY INFORMATION:
- 457 licensed beds, Level III Trauma, Teaching Hospital, Chest Pain Center, Stroke & Bariatric Center of Excellence
- Traveler’s permanent address must be 50+ miles from home unit
- UNIT DETAILS:
- 28-bed Med/Tele unit
- Minimum 18 months Med/Tele RN experience required
- First-time travelers considered but not preferred
- PATIENT POPULATION:
- Orthopedic, spine, trauma, vascular surgery, medical overflow
- PATIENT RATIO:
- RN: 1:4–6 (can surge to 1:7–8)
- LICENSURE & CERTIFICATIONS:
- Active RN license
- BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (Resource Team requirement)
- REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Post-surgical care (incision, drains, wound vacs, chest tubes)
- Assessment, mobility, patient education
- Trach care, NG tube insertion, braces/traction use
- SUPPORT STAFF AVAILABLE:
- CNA (phlebotomy, ADLs, foley care, IV removal)
- Charge nurse (indirect), IV/VAT team, Mentor, RT 24/7
- Hospitalist 24/7, Remote telemetry monitoring
- House supervisor, Patient safety attendants, BERT, Rapid response/code team
- TECHNOLOGY USED:
- EMR: EPIC
- IV pumps: BD Alaris
- Med dispensing: Omnicell
- Monitors: Phillips, Massimo
- FLOATING REQUIREMENTS:
- Must float within region and scope of practice to multiple facilities as needed
- Paid for travel time if floating mid-shift
- ORIENTATION:
- NEO and 2 days departmental orientation
- SCHEDULING:
- Every other weekend required
- 75% holiday coverage expectation for travelers
- Up to 6 days approved RTO (excluding holidays), must extend contract to meet hours if needed
- 6-week schedule cycle
- OTHER DETAILS:
- Navy scrubs required
