Go Red!

Go Red!

Go Red for Women on February 4th! National Wear Red Day was instituted by the American Heart Association in an effort to help save women's lives. Too many women die each year unaware that heart disease is their number one killer. One in three women die from heart disease which means that almost one woman every minute dies which compares to only one in thirty women dying from breast cancer. Go Red is asking women to bring a voice to this silent killer.

Ninety percent of women have one or more risk factors for developing heart disease. However, only one in five women believes that heart disease is her greatest threat. The good news is that heart disease is largely preventable. In fact, eighty percent of cardiac problems could be prevented if women made the right choices for their hearts. Healthy heart choices involve diet, exercise and abstinence from smoking.

The research shows that women who “Go Red” tends to make healthier choices for themselves. More than one third have lost weight and almost fifty five percent have increased their exercise. Six out of ten women changed their diets and forty percent checked their cholesterol levels.

Speak up by wearing red on National Wear Red Day and spread the word to others to help build awareness and possibly inspire action. GoRedForWomen.org is a wonderful source of information and education for women to learn how to make heart healthy choices everyday.
