Description

The PTA provides in-person outpatient rehabilitation in patients’ homes or independent living facilities, primarily for older adults. Under a Licensed Physical Therapist’s supervision, the PTA delivers individualized treatment plans to enhance independence, functional mobility, and overall wellness. The role offers flexibility and varied work environments.
Responsibilities
Attend and contribute to patient care conferences, staff meetings, and team planning.
Follow patient schedules, maintain documentation, and meet billing requirements.
Collaborate with the rehab team to meet patient needs.
Assist Physical Therapists with evaluations, tests, and procedures.
Educate patients, families, and caregivers on therapy techniques.
Maintain, clean, and report issues with therapy equipment.
Deliver compassionate, patient-centered care.
Implement individualised treatment plans.
Provide therapies including:
Therapeutic exercises (strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, gait, posture, endurance, agility)
Functional training & manual therapy
Airway clearance
Integumentary repair and protection
Electrotherapeutic, physical agent, and mechanical modalities
Health/wellness, falls risk, and chronic disease education
Perform other assigned duties.

Compliance
Adhere to all legal, ethical, and organizational standards (HIPAA, False Claims Act, Code of Conduct).
Complete required orientation and training.
Report non-compliance promptly.
Participate in audits, quality assurance, and process improvement.
Physical Demands
Standing/Walking: 67–100%; Sitting: 34–66%
Lifting, Pushing, Pulling, Carrying: up to 50 lbs
Activities include reaching, handling, fingering, feeling, hearing, seeing, fine manipulation, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, twisting.
Work Environment
Inside: 90%; Outside: 10%
Exposed to noise, vibration, chemicals, fumes, dust, odors, gases, moving machinery, uneven ground, and occasional protective equipment (gowns, gloves, masks).
No exposure to extreme heat, cold, or unprotected heights.
Work Situations
Involves measurable criteria, problem-solving, stress management, repetitive/continuous tasks, teamwork, comparing, and following instructions.

Requirements

Valid PTA license or eligibility in Maryland.
Valid driver’s license or reliable transportation.
Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
