As our Director of Nursing, you will provide leadership, guidance, and administrative oversight to the psychiatry unit team to ensure safe, high-quality, and evidence-based care is delivered every day. In this role, you will support individuals across North Dakota who are experiencing severe and chronic mental health and substance use challenges. Your work will directly impact some of the state’s most vulnerable citizens by helping create an environment focused on dignity, recovery, and long-term success. By leading with light, you will bring compassion, accountability, respect, and hope to both the people we serve and the staff you support.

You will oversee and support psychiatry unit team members by providing coaching, education, and ongoing training to ensure staff have the knowledge and resources needed to provide effective care. You will work closely with staff on daily operations, step in to assist during challenging situations, and help foster a collaborative and supportive team environment. You will also ensure clear understanding of professional boundaries and scopes of practice by recognizing the differences between prescriber responsibilities and nursing responsibilities to maintain compliance with regulations and safe patient care practices.

In this position, you will need to be a motivated and resilient leader who can remain focused and supportive during difficult situations. You will understand that progress and recovery can take time, and you will continue working alongside staff and patients to help individuals gain the skills, resources, and supports needed to live as independently and successfully as possible.

To thrive in this position, you should have strong knowledge of behavioral health services, psychiatric nursing, and substance use disorders. You should be comfortable having crucial conversations with those you supervise as well as other team members when applicable, addressing concerns directly, and making thoughtful decisions that support both patient care and operational effectiveness. You will need to understand state regulations and compliance expectations while ensuring services are delivered safely and appropriately.

You should be someone who asks questions, seeks information, and looks beyond the surface to identify opportunities for improvement. Success in this role will require adaptability, critical thinking, and the ability to build strong working relationships with a wide variety of individuals across disciplines. You will play an important role in strengthening services, supporting staff development, and helping North Dakota continue its mission of becoming one of the healthiest states in the nation.
