Common diagnoses/Types of patients Cardiac, Vascular, & Thoracic Surgeries, ECMO, LVAD, & heart transplants
Experience or 'Must have' skills Must have experience in CVICU with these types of patients
Are RNs required to titrate drips? Yes
Common titratable &/or set rate drips All Critical Care Drips including Inotropes & sedation
Charge Nurse/House Supervisor 1 Charge Nurse & 2 House Supervisors
Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios 1-3 CNA's on the unit
Hospitalist or Intensivist in house Intensivist & APP's (Adv Practice Providers) 24/7
RT in ICU 24/7 Yes
RT Equipment (vents, Cpap, BiPap, etc.) Yes
Is there tele on this unit? Monitor Techs? RNs read strips? Tele & RN's must be able to read strips. There are tele techs who will call with updates on rhythm changes, nurses do not have to "read" strips but do need to know how to recognize ECG changes in order to notify providers.
Shifts & Scheduling Days, Nights, Rotating - Interview queue should specify the shift
Weekend Requirement "The ""minimum"" weekend schedule requirements as follows:
3 "S" days no matter what shift
They can be "floated" to any ICU or stepdown unit in the hospital
1 Friday & 1 Monday
*Weekenders are 'exempt' from the Monday requirement*
