Position Overview
A hospital in Las Cruces, NM is seeking an experienced Director of ICU to provide operational and clinical leadership for its Intensive Care Unit. This on-site leadership role is responsible for overseeing nursing staff, ensuring high-quality patient care, managing departmental operations, and driving performance improvement initiatives within the ICU.
The successful candidate will combine strong critical care nursing expertise with proven leadership experience to support staff development, maintain regulatory compliance, and promote excellence in patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Direct the daily operations of the Intensive Care Unit.
Lead, mentor, and evaluate ICU nursing staff and leaders.
Ensure delivery of safe, high-quality patient care consistent with hospital standards.
Manage staffing, scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.
Monitor quality, patient safety, and performance metrics.
Develop and implement policies, procedures, and process improvements.
Collaborate with physicians, nursing leadership, and multidisciplinary teams.
Maintain compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and organizational requirements.
Support staff recruitment, retention, training, and professional development.
Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and patient-centered care.
Required Qualifications
Previous nursing leadership experience required.
Direct ICU nursing experience required.
Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited nursing school.
Active New Mexico RN License, or Compact RN License with willingness to obtain New Mexico licensure upon hire.
Ability to relocate to the Las Cruces area within 30–45 days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) or Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN).
Prior experience managing ICU operations within an acute-care hospital.
Experience with budgeting, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance.
Strong communication, team-building, and change-management skills.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary range: $120,000 – $150,000 annually

Clinical Experience
ICU nursing experience is required
Candidates must have direct Intensive Care Unit clinical experience.
Leadership Experience
Previous leadership experience is required
Examples: Charge Nurse, Nurse Manager, Assistant Director, Director, Clinical Supervisor, or similar leadership roles.
Education
Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited nursing school is required.
Higher degrees (BSN/MSN) are acceptable but not required.
Licensure
Active RN License required:
New Mexico RN License, or
Compact RN License with willingness to obtain NM licensure after hire.
Relocation
Must be able and willing to relocate to the Las Cruces, NM area within 30–45 days of hire.

Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
