This 30-bed Medical Neuroscience Progressive Care Unit specializes in caring for medical neurological patients in a high-acuity setting. The unit is supported by a Centralized Cardiac Monitoring Department (CCMD) that provides continuous cardiac monitoring and surveillance, allowing nurses to focus on delivering high-quality, specialized neurological care.
This unit primarily cares for neurological patients, including stroke (including uncomplicated tPA), seizures, TIAs, traumatic brain injuries, brain tumors, aneurysms not requiring surgery, movement disorders, neuromuscular diseases, headaches, and epilepsy monitoring. Additional patients may include stable subarachnoid hemorrhage, spinal surgery recovery, stable trauma cases, and DKA.
Nurses are supported by a strong interdisciplinary team, including IV therapy, respiratory therapy, physical therapy, phlebotomy, radiology, pharmacy, rapid response teams, transportation, interpretation services, and unit clerical support.
Minimum 2 years of RN experience required. First-time travelers are welcome.
Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH.
Experience required: Neuro PCU experience, including care for CVA patients, use of external CPAP/BiPAP, TR band management, and Yale Swallow Screening.
Previous Charge RN experience preferred.
