Office of the Cook County Public Guardian

The Office of the Cook County Public Guardian is the only law office of its kind in the United States that represents both the interests of children and adults with disabilities. The office has three divisions: Adult Guardianship, Domestic Relations, and Juvenile. The staff consists of approximately 220 attorneys, child advocates, caseworkers, paralegals, financial services specialists, property managers, a psychologist, and support staff. The Cook County Public Guardian represents youth in care as both their attorney and guardian ad litem, and serves as the court-appointed guardian for adults adjudicated as persons with disabilities. The Nurse/Health Care Consultant works as part of an interdisciplinary team to provide consultation and recommendations to attorneys, social workers, case management and the Home Care departments in the Juvenile and Adult Guardianship Divisions.
