What Are We Looking For?
A Health Care Consultant works with child care providers to help keep children safe, help staff manage daily health needs of the children in their care and be a resource of support to the child care program. The Health Care Consultant, RN position educates child care providers on health and safety related issues, the administration of medications, and the development of a child care program’s health care plan. This individual will also provide technical assistance and support to program staff on child related illnesses and the special health care needs of children in a child care setting.
What Does a Health Care Consultant, RN Do?
• Conduct on-site visits to child care programs to officially approve health care plans.
• Provide Medication Administration Training (MAT) and other health related training courses for child care providers.
• Develop and conduct workshops on requested topics for early childhood and school-age educators.
• Provide technical assistance to help child care providers develop general policy statements and annual plans for child care programs (e.g., management of infectious diseases, fevers, and use of medications, and exclusion policies).
• Maintain up-to-date records and the program logs on all services provided.
What Skills Are Needed?
• Knowledge of public health,
• Public speaking, training, mentoring, and/or coaching experience for adults are a plus.
• Professional communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Strong data entry, record keeping, problem-solving, follow-through and organizational skills.
• Attention to detail and deadlines.
• A willingness to learn.
Job Type: Full-time, 37.5 hours/week, 7.5 hours/day, Monday-Friday; some evenings or weekends to meet the needs of the community.
Qualifications:
• Applicants must have a valid NYS Registered Nurse license with 1 year of experience, preferably with some pediatric exposure.
• NYS Driver’s License-travel is required.
