The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) provides skilled physical therapy services under the supervision and direction of a licensed Physical Therapist (PT). The PTA implements treatment plans to improve residents’ mobility, strength, balance, and overall functional ability, promoting independence and quality of life within a skilled nursing facility setting.
Key Responsibilities:
Carry out physical therapy treatment plans developed by the Physical Therapist to address residents' mobility and functional needs.
Deliver direct therapy services, including therapeutic exercises, gait training, and balance activities, in a safe and effective manner.
Observe and report resident responses to interventions, including progress and changes in condition, to the supervising PT.
Assist with resident assessments and contribute to documentation and care planning as appropriate.
Educate residents and caregivers on exercises and techniques to promote safety and carryover outside therapy sessions.
Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation in the electronic medical record system.
Ensure proper use and care of therapy equipment and assistive devices.
Participate in team meetings and collaborate with interdisciplinary staff to support coordinated resident care.
Adhere to all state, federal, and facility regulations and professional standards of practice.
Uphold ethical standards and maintain licensure and continuing education requirements.
Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
Current PTA license in the state of practice.
Prior experience in SNF or geriatric setting preferred.
Strong communication, clinical judgment, and documentation skills.
Ability to work effectively as part of a rehabilitation team under the supervision of a licensed PT.
Work Environment:
Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF)/Long-Term Care setting
Requires standing, lifting, and assisting residents with mobility
Collaborative, fast-paced interdisciplinary team environment
