Reliant Staffing Partners
Comprehensive Cancer Center - Fast-paced mixed-acuity unit that cares for both Progressive Care (PCU) and Medical-Surgical patients. The unit primarily treats adult and geriatric oncology patients, including those with breast, thyroid, melanoma, hepatobiliary, colorectal cancers, and patients undergoing reconstructive plastic surgery related to cancer treatment. Nurses manage complex conditions such as oncologic emergencies and cytokine release syndrome while providing treatments including chemotherapy, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, insulin drips, and heparin drips. The unit also maintains a strong focus on infection prevention and fall prevention protocols.
This is a busy surgical floor, and all permanent staff are PCU-trained. The typical staffing ratio goal is 1:4, but it may increase to 1:5 depending on patient census and acuity. Weekend requirements vary based on the needs of the unit.
Shift options include 12-hour rotating Day/Night shifts or Nights only. For rotating contracts, nurses may be scheduled for days, nights, or a combination of both, depending on departmental staffing needs. Schedules are reviewed every four weeks, and while staff may submit self-scheduling requests, final schedules are balanced according to unit priorities. Set or blocked scheduling is not offered, consistent with permanent staff scheduling practices.
Orientation includes one week of Monday–Friday day shift orientation, followed by 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor during the second week.
Required certifications include BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS, with ONS Chemotherapy certification preferred. The unit utilizes EPIC for electronic medical record documentation.
