- $71.05/hour – Base Rate

Schedule

Tripler Army Medical Center operates its Pediatric Intensive Care services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Contract personnel may be scheduled for 8-, 10-, or 12-hour shifts, including rotating day and night shifts. Specific schedules and hours may vary based on departmental requirements.

This is an on-base position at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Required Qualifications

Education:
Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or higher. Must be a graduate of a college or university accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)

Equivalency
An equivalency determination may not be requested as a substitute for the education requirements for this labor category.

Experience:
All Registered Nurses must have a minimum of one (1) year of experience within the last two (2) years after graduation working as a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) RN.

Licensure:
Must possess a current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse from any state or territory of the United States.

Required Certifications:
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

Job Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse – PICU will provide specialized nursing care to critically ill pediatric patients. Responsibilities include:

- Perform advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation and safely mix and administer specialized, potent, and potentially life-threatening medications, including weight-based medications such as atropine, dopamine, and dobutamine.
- Perform pulmonary ventilation treatments, including the administration of oxygen through invasive and non-invasive methods.
- Assist physicians with complex and potentially life-threatening procedures, including cardioversion, central line insertion, and intubation.
- Operate and monitor highly complex medical equipment, including hemodynamic monitoring devices, ventilators, and oxygen monitors.
- Provide patient and family education and counseling regarding medications, potential reactions, health maintenance, and illness prevention.
- Manage nursing care for patients receiving multiple medications and requiring complex technical equipment.
- Complete thorough patient assessments, identify abnormalities, make appropriate clinical decisions, and take corrective action when necessary.
- Apply specialized nursing principles, practices, and procedures when assessing and caring for critically ill infants, children, adolescents, and teenage patients.
- May be required to provide support in the Pediatric Ward, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), or Mother Baby Unit (infants only) or serve as a Patient Safety Attendant for pediatric or adult patients, based on facility needs.
