Job Description
We are seeking highly skilled ICU Registered Nurses to join a high-acuity critical care unit in Chicago, IL. This role requires nurses who are experienced in managing fresh post-operative open heart patients (CABG) and complex critically ill populations, including neuro and multi-system failure patients.
The ICU RN will deliver advanced critical care in a fast-paced environment using evidence-based practices and EPIC documentation.
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct, high-acuity nursing care to critically ill ICU patients
Manage fresh hearts post-op (CABG), including hemodynamic monitoring and vasoactive drips
Care for patients with neuro emergencies, stroke, and CRRT needs
Monitor invasive lines, ventilators, and advanced life-support equipment
Administer and titrate critical care medications, including thrombolytics (TNK)
Perform continuous patient assessments and respond rapidly to changes in condition
Document all care accurately in EPIC EMR
Collaborate with intensivists, cardiothoracic surgeons, and interdisciplinary teams
Float to other ICU units as needed due to census or staffing needs
Unit & Patient Population
30-bed SICU / MICU / Neuro ICU
Open heart (CABG), neuro, stroke, and high-acuity medical/surgical patients
Schedule & Policy Requirements
Work every other weekend
Work every other holiday (No RTO for holidays)
Calling in sick on a weekend shift (Friday 7 PM – Monday 7 AM) requires making up the missed shift the following weekend
Floating is required when ICU census is low
Qualifications
Active RN license (IL or compact)
Recent high-acuity ICU experience required
Proven experience with:
Fresh post-op CABG / Open Heart patients
CRRT
Neuro ICU / Stroke care
EPIC EMR experience – required
Certifications (Required):
BLS
ACLS
NIHSS
