ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists with patient transportation to and from other departments.
Assists other Departments with patient care.
Explains procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation, understanding, and allay apprehension.
Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques.
Prepares equipment and aids Physician during treatment and examination of patient.
Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of patient.
Observes patient, records condition, significant changes and/or reactions, and notifies supervisor and/or Physician of significant
incidents, patient's condition, and/or reactions to drugs and treatments.
Takes temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs used to detect deviations from normal and assess condition of
patient.
Responds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocols.
Documents nursing history and physical assessment for assigned patients.
Initiates a patient education plans according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by Physician and/or hospital
policy, including patient and family instruction.
Assists CNAs with making beds, bathing and feeding patients.
Participates in department or unit quality improvement activities.
Implements Universal/Standard Precautions and all Infection Prevention policies relevant to patient and specimen handling.
Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care.
Uses equipment safely and effectively.
Reviews plan of care of assigned patients, updating and indicating changes as necessary.
Communicates pertinent information regarding patient care throughout shift and at shift change.
Documents clear and concise data for all patient care and discharge/transfer instructions.
Assists in new employee orientation.
Reads, monitors, and identifies irregularities of EKG printout and takes appropriate action.
Observes and respects patient privacy and confidentiality of personal health information, PHI.
Evaluates and interprets physician’s orders.
Enters and processes physician’s orders as needed.
Documents per policies in medical record.
Completes pharmacy testing and training.
Completes EKGs and Neb treatments on patients after demonstrating proficiency to Cardio-Pulmonary department.
Works with patient and family for holistic care.
Participates in interdisciplinary discharge process.
Participates in all safety programs which may include assignment to an emergency response team.
Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Current Illinois Nursing License in good standing and without disciplinary action, current CPR card. ACLS is desirable.
Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.
