Job Description – Psych RN | Council Bluffs, IA | Night Shift

Staffing Medical USA is seeking an experienced Psychiatric RN for a contract opportunity in Council Bluffs, Iowa, working in a behavioral health setting serving adult and pediatric patients.

Position Details:

Specialty: Psych RN
Location: Council Bluffs, IA
Shift: 12-hour shifts, 6:30 AM–7:00 PM
Schedule: Every other weekend and every other holiday
Weekly Blended Package: $2,340
$30.35/hr taxable
$1,246/week non-taxable
$69/hr OT & holiday
Interview: Manager interview
Clinical involvement: No clinical interview
Radius: Must live 50+ miles from the facility
Charting: Epic experience helpful
Scrubs: Navy blue

Unit Information:

General Adult Unit: 14 beds
Special Care: 8 beds
Kids Unit: 14 beds
Nurses may work with both adult and pediatric patients.
Typical adult ratio: 1:6–1:7
CNA ratio: approximately 1:14 when fully staffed

Common Patient Diagnoses:

Schizophrenia
Anxiety
Bipolar disorder
Depression
Suicidal ideation
Other behavioral health diagnoses

Requirements:

Strong psychiatric/behavioral health experience
Excellent de-escalation and communication skills
Ability to manage up to 7 patients, including admissions and discharges
Epic experience preferred
Ability to work with both adult and pediatric populations
Driver's license required at submission for the 50-mile radius verification

Orientation & Exam:

1 shift orientation with Adults
1 shift orientation with Kids
RN must complete a Pass/Fail exam on Friday
Exam is open-book with resources provided
Minimum passing score: 90%
Failure to achieve 90% may result in termination

Important Eligibility Rule:
Candidates must be 50+ miles from the facility and cannot currently be full-time, part-time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity.

No: drips, telemetry, floating, regular call/standby, or charge nurse/house supervisor responsibilities.

Active RN license eligible to work in Iowa
Psychiatric/Behavioral Health RN experience
Strong de-escalation skills
Good communication skills and ability to work compassionately with patients
Must be comfortable caring for adult and pediatric psychiatric patients
Able to manage approximately 6–7 patients, including admissions and discharges
Epic experience preferred, but not mandatory
Driver’s license required at submission for mileage verification
Must live at least 50 miles from the facility
Cannot currently be full-time, part-time, or PRN at any facility affiliated with CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity
Must be available for every other weekend and every other holiday
Must pass the Friday orientation exam with a minimum 90% score (open-book)

No prior experience with drips or telemetry is required.
