Outpatient Occupational Therapist needed in Alpena, MI

Description

$14,000 sign on bonus, 2-year commitment

Occupational Therapist I - This position delegates responsibility to the Occupational Therapist Assistant and Aides. Activities of this position are patient focused and utilize assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation in accordance with occupational therapy standards, physician orders, and governing policies and procedures.

Areas treated: Primarily outpatient but do float to acute care sometimes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Evaluates the patient’s function by performing formal/informal testing measures to determine the skeletal, neurological, respiratory, cardiovascular status, developmental, social, and cognitive functions.
Develops a goal specific treatment regime based on assessment data and the patient’s tolerance to carry-out the treatment plan as prescribed.
Submits a written treatment regime to be included as part of the plan of treatment authorized by and coordinated with the physician. Updates plan of care as needed to reflect changes in patient status. Co-signs verbal orders received by occupational therapist assistant as necessary.
Devises a schedule of treatment, which is frequency and duration specific to be discussed with patient/family/caregiver and coordinated with clinical support staff.
Educates patient, family, and/or caregiver regarding pathology or condition, patient alternatives, prognosis, and rationale for treatment through forms of rest, exercise, modalities, and other indicated interventions.
Provides supervision for Occupational Therapist Assistants, Home Health Aides, and students per affiliate and regulatory standards.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Recommends adaptive/supportive equipment based on assessment; contacts appropriate representative and/or supplier to place order and assists in securing equipment for patient.
Documents the patient/family/caregiver response to treatment and changes in patient condition per affiliate documentation policies and/or standards and in compliance with regulatory agencies.
JOB DESCRIPTION

Completes daily documentation necessary for billing procedures per affiliate policy and in compliance with regulatory agencies
Provides treatment intervention and demonstrates competence to facilitate or restore optimal functioning specific to therapist’s patient care area.
Educates patient/family/caregiver in home education program using relevant and effective teaching methods.
Demonstrates effective oral and written communication with all internal and external customers to maximize quality of patient care including coordination with interdisciplinary team members.
Promotes education and development among staff, students, and other health care providers using relevant and effective teaching methods.
Promotes process improvement.
Assists with program development.
Participates in team conferences and interdisciplinary meetings as appropriate.
Promotes occupational therapy within MyMichigan Health and service area, participating in and providing community education.
Function as case manager for assigned cases.
Demonstrates commitment to MyMichigan Health and specific affiliate mission as evidenced by customer service, quality of service, and teamwork.
Other duties as assigned.

Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.
Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).
Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material.

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSURES

BLS - Basic Life Support - Within 1 month of hire or transfer [HIGHLY PREFERRED]
NBCOT - NB Certification in Occ Therapy [REQUIRED]
OTR - Occupational Therapist [REQUIRED]
REQUIRED EDUCATION

Bachelors Degree [REQUIRED]

More than 1 year of experience preferred but would be willing for new grad. [HIGHLY PREFERRED]
Outpatient Experience preferred [HIGHLY PREFERRED]
