A Trusted Michigan Career School for 90 Years Established in downtown Detroit in 1934, Dorsey College continues the heritage of its founder, Ruth Dorsey, as a trusted name for comprehensive, quality career training. In 1934, Ruth Dorsey founded the Dorsey School to meet the growing demand in business for highly skilled operators of Victor and Burroughs’ comptometer machines. In its day, the comptometer was the most advanced technology for data tabulation and was widely used well into the 1960’s. Over time, The Dorsey School evolved and adapted with the times in Michigan. The Dorsey School became Dorsey Schools, going from a single campus to multiple locations serving students in various communities. Dorsey Schools also continued to find new ways to meet the needs within local communities by offering new training programs. Throughout this evolution and adaptation, Dorsey has continued to be grounded in serving both students and our local communities well.
