Registered Nurse
The Nursing Professional reports to the Treatment Director and is responsible for coordinating the health care needs of children in care.
Essential duties
Perform a nursing assessment of the child to include documentation of the child’s diagnosed medical needs and selection of placement (the needs assessment will be based on the health care professionals license)
Participating in the service planning process for the child’s care
Directing the health care training of unlicensed caregivers, such as care of a permanently placed feeding tube
Ensuring non-mobile children are turned every two hours to increase circulation and to prevent bedsores or contractures unless medical orders are to the contrary. This procedure must be documented in the child’s record
Reviewing medical records
Contacting other professionals, as needed for the child’s care
On-site visits for nursing assessments and child record reviews, including compliance with written physician orders
Monitoring the implementation of the child’s service plan and
Documenting outcomes for interventions used in the child’s care
Scheduling and transporting to appointments
Psychiatric admissions and after care
On call for intakes and medication, medical related questions, or concerns
The Nursing Professional could be counted in the staff ratio if not completing administrative tasks, in those cases the Direct Care Staff Job duties also apply.
Registered Nurse:
24-hour availability of nursing, medical, and psychiatric services
Licensed nursing services, including 24-hour nursing direction or supervision
Assistance with mobility
Routine adjustments or replacement of medical equipment
As needed, caregiver supervision of children during the provision of medical and dental services.
Working Relationships
Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with the program management team and staff, children, and volunteers to meet the needs of the children and ensure the program goals and objectives are being met
Work closely with management, and the program staff to ensure program operations, goals and objectives are being met and the children are receiving the highest quality of services and support
Work as team player and exhibit professional behavior and a positive attitude with both internal and external clients that reflects positively on the Agency and is consistent with Agency policies and practices.
Work within the Agency’s Code of Ethics and establish working relationships within the ethical boundaries established
Provide a safe and loving environment to children
