PRIMARY CARE LICENSED PRACTICAL/VOCATIONAL NURSES (LPN/LVNs)

Full-Time - Contract Length: Current to July 26, 2019
Contract Hours 0830 hours to 1700
Licensed Practical Nurse or Licensed Vocational Nurse, trained at an accredited college with an Associate's Degree or Diploma.
Pediatric immunizations experience
Possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted license to practice nursing in one of the 50 United States, District of Columbia, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or U.S. Virgin Islands and be able to obtain clearance at IACH through approval of the Credentials Committee.
Have and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS). The American Heart Association Basic Life Support or Healthcare Providers and the CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer is the only program accepted. ACLS and PALS are not an acceptable substitute for BLS.
Have at least one (1) year experience within the past five (5) years routinely practicing as a Licensed Practical Nurse or Licensed Vocational Nurse within a clinical or primary care setting.
Able to operate a personal computer utilizing Microsoft applications, such as Word, Excel and efficiently utilize an Electronic Medical Record.
Able to read, write, and speak English well enough and enunciate with sufficient clarity to effectively communicate with patients, nursing staff and other healthcare providers.
Contract employees shall be a U.S. citizen or otherwise meet the requirements of AR 25-2, Information
Possess sufficient initiative, interpersonal relationship skills and social sensitivity such that the HCP can relate to a variety of patients from diverse backgrounds.
LICENSE AND CREDENTIALS:
Demonstrate professional experience in abilities to respond to patient concerns, complaints.
Call Rapid Response Team in the event of a patient's physiologic state declines.
Call an emergency code as necessary and take appropriate action per hospital policy Emergency Room treatment as directed.
Participate in CODE BLUE Response.
Clean, disinfect and reassemble instruments in accordance with SOP. Package instruments for processing in Central Material Service. Additionally, clean and restock procedure rooms with supplies, forms and linen; dispose of trash and soiled linen. Inform appropriate management staff of needed supplies and equipment.
Set up exam rooms and assist primary care provider during minor procedures, exams and or specimen
collections. Anticipate need to pass instruments or other supplies to the provider maintaining sterile/clean environment. Open sterile packs and instrument trays if indicated. Clean, disinfect, and reassemble instruments IAW SOP. Label, log and document appropriate patient information, prior to transporting specimen to lab for processing per SOP.
Be able to administer or assist with minor acute and routine primary care tasks in ambulatory clinic setting in accordance with SOPs and training rendered under the supervision of a RN or other assigned personnel (MD, NP):
• 12 Lead EKG
• Urinalysis dipstick
• PAP/Pelvic examination
• PAP smears
• Hemoccult testing
• Throat culture
• Visual Acuity check
• Orthostatic (tilt) vital signs
• Wound cleaning
• Dressing changes
• Eye, wound and ear irrigation
• Sterile prep for minor surgical procedures
Administer intravenous, intramuscular and subcutaneous medications, immunizations, as appropriate
Observe for and correct or report potential/actual safety hazards. Exercise the universal precautions set forth by the Center for Disease Control when providing direct patient care and/or indirect patient care involving possible exposure to contaminated items in the MTF.
Perform appointment setting through use of CHCS as needed in support of clinic functions.
Perform daily quality control checks on clinic glucose test monitor under supervision of senior nursing personnel.
Assist in orientation of lesser skilled personnel. Serve as preceptor to newly assigned Licensed Practical Nurses, military Medics, and nursing assistants or other paraprofessional staff.
Assist Front Desk operations, as needed, to be determined by clinic Leadership team. Perform clerical work IAW Front Desk Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)... Maintain a Competency Assessment Folder IAW organization policy and keeps the COR informed of issues.
Prepare clinic for business as needed. Open clinic and complete all tasks associated with this function IAW SOP when determined by Clinic Leadership Team or designated representative.
Assist Clinic Leadership Team in preparation for Joint Commission tracers and inspections; correct discrepancies identified as determined by Leader Team. Audit competency assessment folders of all staff members as needed. Assists soldiers with safety inspections. Assist soldiers during inspection of Pyxis and patient exam rooms for expired/unauthorized items.
Transport patients to other units/departments assuring safety of patient. Screen patients prior to transport to ensure preoperative medications have been given by the nurse and that jewelry, dentures, and any prosthetic devices have been removed. Check patient chart and identification band for completeness.
