1. General job duties. Types of procedures required.
RN care of adult and pediatric med/surg patients, patients on telemetry. Orthopedic and occasionally general surgery patients.

2. Equipment utilized in the unit/dept. (Is there computerized charting, medication systems, etc.)
EPIC, pyxis, Philips telemetry with central station at nurse’s station.


3. Required skills and minimum years of experience.
minimum 2-3 years RN experience with this population/clinical area.


4. Specific licensures and certifications/registrations required. (ARRT, CRT, BLS, ACLS, etc)
BLS, ACLS, PALS.


5. Shift or schedule requirements. (Will the employee ever work alone? Is call required? If so, how often? Are weekends required?)
Weekends required – will fluctuate based on department need (usually every other or every third, but need to work around current employees that are on weekend program so may not always work that many weekends).

6. Floating to other units/departments. (If so, to which units/departments?)
May be floated to ICU to care for overflow patients that have been discharged from ICU service but are still bedded in an ICU room.

7. Bed size/number of rooms for this unit/dept.
31 bed unit.


8. Nurse to patient ratio of this unit. (nursing only)

Typically around 5-6:1, but we use Clairvia for our acuity system and evaluate the calculated patient acuity, also taking into consideration isolation precautions, patients who are confused/require sitter 1:1, and other factors that do not generate an acuity value from objective documentation.

9. Dress Code:
Scrubs – no specific color (no denim).


10. Tell us about the unit/department specific training and orientation program.
8-12 hours in-seat orientation to facility, policies/procedures, completion of e-learning and EMR training.
12 hours of on-unit (1 shift) clinical orientation with a preceptor on the shift you will be working.
