Duties and responsibilities may encompass outpatient and inpatient med surgical nursing services to IHS patients.

Assessment and Monitoring: Perform thorough assessments of patients' health status, including physical, psychological, and social aspects. Continuously monitor vital signs, symptoms, and response to treatment.

Medication Administration: Administer medications, intravenous therapies, and treatments as prescribed by physicians. Ensure accurate dosage, proper routes, and patient education regarding medications.

Patient Education: Educate patients and their families about their medical conditions, treatment plans, and self-care techniques. Provide guidance on managing chronic diseases and post-operative care.

Wound Care: Manage and provide care for surgical wounds, incisions, and dressings. Monitor for signs of infection and promote wound healing.

Pain Management: Assess and manage pain levels in patients. Administer pain medications and implement non-pharmacological pain management techniques.

Collaboration: Collaborate with a multidisciplinary healthcare team, including physicians, surgeons, pharmacists, physical therapists, and social workers, to provide comprehensive patient care.

Patient Advocacy: Advocate for patients' rights, preferences, and needs. Ensure that patients receive appropriate care and support throughout their hospital stay.

Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, including nursing assessments, care plans, and progress notes.

Emergency Response: Be prepared to respond to emergencies and assist during codes or rapid response situations. Maintain certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), if required.

Infection Control: Follow strict infection control protocols to prevent the spread of infections within the healthcare setting.

Quality Improvement: Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the enhancement of patient care standards.

Patient Safety: Ensure patient safety by adhering to best practices, including proper identification of patients, medication safety protocols, and fall prevention measures.
