An OT is a healthcare provider who takes everyday activities that are meaningful to the patient and incorporates them into the treatment plan to restore function therapeutically. Such functions include:

· Assess the patient’s condition and needs

· Develop treatment plans

· Recommend changes to a patient’s home and work settings to fit their needs

· Rehabilitate patients with the use of equipment

· Assess and monitor progress

A typical therapy session will focus more on functional restoration, which may consist of:

· Strengthening

· Performing everyday tasks in a different way

· Using adaptive equipment

· Modifying the environment to get the job done

This work helps the patient gain or regain independence, whether they are a child born with developmental delays, a construction worker with a hand injury, or an older adult who has survived a stroke.
