Job Title: Assistant Director of Nursing – Hospice
Reports To: Director of Nursing

Internal Customers: Hospice Team Members, Management, Owners
External Customers: Physicians, Clinicians, Discharge Planners, Facility Representatives

Position Overview:
The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) – Hospice is a licensed registered nurse responsible for supporting the overall clinical operations of the hospice program. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality patient care in home settings and provides top-level clinical oversight for the organization. The ADON assists in managing departmental operations, staffing, productivity monitoring, and interdisciplinary coordination of care involving patients, families, and referring agencies.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing (Diploma, Associate, or Bachelor’s degree)
Advanced degrees (e.g., Master’s in Healthcare Administration) are preferred

Licensure:
Must hold a current RN license in the state of Texas, compliant with Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) guidelines
Valid Texas driver’s license required

Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of hospice nursing experience
Home health care experience is advantageous
At least 1 year of supervisory or management experience in a healthcare setting such as hospice, hospital, nursing facility, or other licensed care environment serving individuals with functional disabilities

Skills & Abilities:
Proficiency in core nursing practices and standards of care
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Demonstrated decision-making capabilities and leadership presence
Ability to read, write, and understand English (Spanish fluency and healthcare administration experience are preferred)
Must meet health screening requirements, including Hepatitis profile and TB screen (if conducting patient visits)
Able to maintain effective working relationships across all levels of the organization and with external stakeholders

Work Environment:
Primarily office-based during standard business hours
Occasional patient visits may be required, involving exposure to varying home environments and potential contact with infectious materials
Local travel required; must be flexible with scheduling and available for on-call emergencies as needed

Physical & Mental Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting; must be able to manage stress and maintain professionalism in high-pressure situations
If performing home visits, must be able to stand and walk for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds as needed for patient care
Must be able to respond promptly to urgent needs, prioritize multiple tasks, and make sound decisions under pressure
