Assures that staff receives sufficient training and job orientation to perform his/her work duties. Develops/coordinates/assists with instruction in general orientation if appropriate. Assures all staff complete required orientation topics before they begin work in their department; assures all employees receive a comprehensive orientation that covers all required topics per Paradise Valley Estates policy, procedures, orientation checklists and law. Assures that all employee training checklists and on-the-job orientation is completed within the appropriate timeframe according to regulation. Verifies the skills and competency of staff on at least an annual basis. Develops a written plan that addresses identified training needs. Establishes an annual calendar that includes all Paradise Valley Estates required and federal and state mandated in-services/certification training, and communicates in-service/training in advance. Utilizes lesson plans with measurable objectives for any instructor led educational offerings. Establishes/maintains a resource center and library training for the needs of the campus. Assists staff to locate materials. Develops or arranges training that is appropriate for adult learners; conducts/coordinates or makes all arrangements for training such as room, refreshments, speakers, audio/visual etc. Provides individuals and/or teams with direction, encouraging teamwork and collaboration. Coaches and mentors staff to ensure that training is applied. Trains others to coach and mentor knowledge and skills. Evaluates training by gathering staff input regarding quality of training offered, implementing/maintaining systems to assess training effectiveness and outcome measurements. Provides at least a quarterly report to the Quality Meeting.
Safeguards residents’ property, reports complaints of missing items. Assists to maintain safe, pleasant, orderly resident living areas. Maintains residents’ self-esteem, privacy and confidentiality of personal information. Assures residents are free of abuse and neglect.
Collaborates with Human Resources to assure all required pre-employment forms are completed and filed in the employee history file; and that all orientation paperwork is completed and before the employee is assigned independently. Completes quality improvement audits as assigned. Keeps a file of all lesson plans and materials covered in in-services by self or others/ Tracks attendance and assures all training is recorded and notifies the Director of Nursing/Administrator of employees’ attendance status and concerns. Posts or communicates notices of training opportunities in advance. Answers staff questions about learning. Utilizes appropriate communication techniques with residents per care plan, and immediately reports any physical or emotional problems from observation or resident report. Responds to resident call lights promptly as appropriate encourages and assists residents with transportation to activities of choice, assists resident to complete phone calls in private areas. Interacts with residents and maintains resident-centered conversations when residents are present. Offers/provides privacy for family, volunteers, professional and/or friend visits. Sees other staff as customers of the staff development and education area and responds to each request and need in a friendly and helpful manner. Listens, encourages, affirms, and supports all Paradise Valley Estates employees.
Assures staff training on safety policy and procedures annually. Models appropriate safety procedures.
Reports signs/symptoms of resident infections to appropriate staff in a timely manner. Models infection control procedures. Assures completion of annual training on infection control, blood borne pathogens, TB, etc. to all staff. Collaborates with Human Resources to assure employee health measures and testing include Hepatitis B/HIV, Mantoux/TB, and personal protective equipment are implemented and maintained.
Demonstrates/encourages opportunities for carrying out the mission of Paradise Valley Estates. Works with the Administrator to identify budgetary needs related to staff education and assists in formulating an annual budget. Acquires resources and means that promote a quality work environment. Assists and participates in the quality assurance process and in the Quality Meetings ensuring quality performance, conformance with regulations, standards and laws, and customer satisfaction. Keeps abreast of and implements new programs or practices. Accepts accountability for activities under direct control; plans and organizes work with and for department; exercises sound judgment and decision-making; promotes cooperative working relationships within and between departments.
Licensed Vocational Nurse license required. Baccalaureate of Nursing preferred. Must hold a current valid LVN or RN license to practice nursing in the State of California, or show proof of application for such. Director of Staff Development Certification, two years of nursing experience and one year of direct patient care in a nursing facility.
One (1) year additional education or work experience in nursing service supervision or administration and education or experience in rehabilitative or geriatric nursing.
Three (3) years minimum, five years preferred as a registered nurse or licensed vocational nurse. Must have knowledge of all details of nursing care to geriatric residents and previous experience in a convalescent home or general hospital with supervisory or charge nurse abilities.
