Reports to: CEO/Executive Director
Position Purpose: The Director of Health and Safety administers broad oversight of departmental subdivisions fundamental to maintaining the health and safety of students. The Director will oversee the school health services staff and monitor implementation of effective practices in the delivery of student health support services for optimizing student achievement. The Director also oversees the school security staff and continually refine and revise procedures in protecting the health and safety of students and staff. The Director is a school leader in the implementation, staff training and continuous improvement of school crisis planning. As well, the Director supervises and supports the Food Services department in nourishing a student population with increasingly specialized dietary needs. The Director serves as a resource and provides technical guidance to other school departments as well as maintains partnerships and associations with external public and private organizations, first responders, professional nursing and government agencies.

Essential Functions:
• Oversees and manages activities and programs related to Heath Services; monitors the implementation of new and existing programs and initiatives
• Oversees and manages the school security staff and provides direction in the development and implementation of effective school security procedures
• Supervises the Food Services department and the engages with Business Office staff in satisfying federal compliance standards
• Participates in the development of grant requests and proposals which impact areas of specialization
• Works collaboratively with internal and external source to address stakeholder needs and concerns
• Ensures that all mandated guidelines governing health service activities are adhered to
• Acts in a consultative role for staff, provides direction in the planning, development, and implementation of student and family support services
• Identifies effective practice for the delivery of services
• Implements and evaluates training activities, provides training directly to staff members or through trainers
• Serves in a liaison capacity; works collaboratively all departments in the organization
• Provides technical support to the nursing staff, coordinates and monitors all student health supports
• Defines, monitors and outlines appropriate health goals to be implemented by school nurses and educational staff working with the students
• Provides opportunities for student, staff and families to learn about wellness and practice a healthy lifestyle
• Participates in case management for students and families either directly or by involving consultative case management services
• Directs wellness initiatives for staff and students
• Directs and monitors nutrition consultant activities to ensure student and staff needs are being addressed
Minimum Qualifications:
• Master's degree in a Special Education field and at least five years experience as a certificated school administrator (or willingness to obtain)
OR
• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing with 10 years experience and School Nurse certification (or willingness to obtain)
OR
• Such other combination of training and experience as the CEO deems satisfactory
Preferred Qualifications:
• Licensure as a Certified and Registered Nurse Practitioner
• Current license as an RN in the State of Pennsylvania
• Certificate as School Health Supervisor preferred
• Demonstrated experience with crisis planning and engagement with first responders
• Experience serving students with special dietary needs
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Demonstrated knowledge and experience in:
• The training of staff and other stakeholder groups
• Planning, coordinating, and implementing new programming
• Working collaboratively with internal and external personnel
• Providing recommendations for risk reduction after employing effective incident management techniques
• Coordinate and monitor contracted services
• Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships
