Position Title: Registered Nurse – TVI Summer Program
Dates: Sunday, July 14th thru Friday, August 2nd
Hours: 8AM to 8:30PM
Days: Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday,
Thursday & Friday or Saturday & Sunday
FLSA Classification: Exempt
Reports to: Coordinator in the Health Services Program
Position Purpose: Responsible for providing general nursing care to the students in the Transitional Vocational Initiative (TVI) Program. Facilitates positive student responsive to normal developments. Intervene when there is actual and potential health problem with students. Promote health and safety. Collaborate with others to build student and family for adaptation, self management, self advocacy and learning.
Communicates with the parents, physicians and outside agencies, as need; Documents all communications properly with parents and other agencies regarding the student.
Attends Off Campus Activities in order to administer medication.
Supports students who are ill or injured and insures their safety at all times.
Consults with the TVI Program Coordinator to discuss the extreme summer heat and the safety of the students’ participation during outside activities.
Performs triage to ill or injured students to determine need for immediate medical care, parent pick-up to go home or consultation with an outside agency/physician.
Administers prescribed medications and reconciliation.
Observes the students, records significant conditions and reactions and notifies Health Services Coordinator and TVI Coordinator of the student condition and reaction to his/her medication.
Completes a daily written log on the students.
Safeguards the confidentiality of the student's medical information.
Reports unsafe working or living conditions to the immediate attention of the TVI Program Coordinator.
Participate in schedule meetings and in-service trainings.
Performs additional duties as assigned.
Associates or Bachelor Degree in Nursing
A valid Pennsylvania Registered Nurse License
1-3 Years of Experience working with students who are visually impaired with multiple disabilities.
Must be efficient in medication administration, triage and first aid.
Must be current with CPR/AED and First Aid.
Effective communication skills (oral and written) and confidence in conveying information to all types of members of the community, including teachers, administrators, other staff members and students.
Commitment to the institution’s needs and readiness to respond in a timely manner.
Must be able to attend a three (3) days Orientation which will take place in June 2018. The days will be scheduled to accommodate the applicant(s) and department schedule.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
Requires prolonged sitting and standing.
Repetitive motion of the finger and hands for the computer keyboard and file/medication room.
Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull or push heavy objects or materials.
Requires stooping, bending and reaching.
Able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
